Point Loma Singers and Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Sunday, February 28th, 4:00pm
at Ascension Lutheran Church, 5106 Zion Avenue, San Diego
The Point Loma Singers is a select chamber choir of 22 singers from San Diego’s Point Loma Nazarene University. Program will range from “songs, hymns, and spiritual songs” to Renaissance madrigals and folk-songs of different countries, including tunes from early American and the Black Gospel traditions. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble and rhythm section devote themselves to the study not only of the great styles and repertoire of jazz, but also the art of improvisation. Current repertoire includes swing, Latin samba and bossa, as well as secular and sacred standards.
Their director, Dr. Keith Pedersen, is in his eighteenth year as professor of music at PLNU where he directs the 150-voice Choral Union as well as the Singers and Jazz Ensemble and teaches courses in music history, conducting, and voice. He is also Director of Choral Ministries at La Jolla Presbyterian Church.
